Book Description
29 Gifts is the story of how 29Gifts.org founder, Cami Walker, healed from a major illness by taking an unusual prescription from a South African medicine woman. The remedy? Give 29 gifts to others in 29 days. Midway through Cami's 29 days of giving, after seeing many miraculous changes in her life, she launched a website encouraging others to take the 29 Gifts Challenge and share their stories about how it impacted their lives. Six months and 1,765 committed givers later, Cami was contacted by a major publisher and decided to say YES to their request and write a book. The book is scheduled for release Fall 2009.

In addition to Cami's inspiring personal story, 29 Gifts will also include a collection of 29 personal essays from others about the Healing Power of Giving.

SUBMISSION DETAILS
Authors whose stories are chosen for publication in the 29 Gifts book will receive a one-time payment of $200.

Selected contributors also get a brief bio at the end of their story and a link to their 29Gifts.org profile page. On your 29Gifts.org profile page, readers can learn more about you, leave comments for you about your story, and link to your website.

How to Submit:
1. SIGN UP for the 29 Gifts Challenge at http://www.29Gifts.org

2. Give away 29 gifts in 29 days. Your gifts can be ANYTHING given to ANYONE -- smiles, kind thoughts, old sweaters, cans of soup, spare change...

3. Write and submit a story that is 2,500 words or less about how it impacted your life to focus on giving for 29 days

4. Email your story in the BODY of an email to story@29Gifts.org (NO ATTACHMENTS, please)
*Put STORY in the SUBJECT LINE of your email

A FEW GUIDELINES TO GIVE YOU THE BEST CHANCE OF BEING SELECTED FOR THE 29 GIFTS BOOK:
1. Write in present, active tense.

2. Use a lot of sensory detail that helps stimulate all five senses.

3. Use conversational tone, as if you are sitting down and telling the story in person to your best friend.

4. Tell the story of the gift(s) you gave, but also communicate how it impacted you. How did you feel about yourself after offering the gift(s)? Did the gift(s) change your perception about something? Did you receive something unexpected in return? Was there an evident impact on the recipient of the gift(s)?

ScribeSpirit - An Unity Illuminata sponsored eZine

Recently I had the pleasure of being introduced to Jody Kuchar by way of Ron Hudson. Jody has a penchant for making me spew coffee, a perfectly pedicured parrot, and a very exciting new bi-monthly and bi-lingual eZine called ScribeSpirit.

This is an international literary project with contributors from 4 continents whose aim is to celebrate the collaboration of writers, artists, social workers and professionals in an effort to promote art, culture, and social reform. They want to cross generation gaps, and the lines drawn by societal misconceptions. They want to promote values such as education, conservation and economics. In short, they want to promote diversity and unity. Their position is that:

"Social reform should not be a grim struggle or constant battle; there is joy in collaborative efforts, and we believe that change should be celebratory."

Issue one, "Inspiration" was launched on September 5th, 2005, and is currently under construction on the temporary server at ScribeSpirit [link].

Issue two, on the theme of "Living Arrangements" is pending. Currently the contributors include L. Jody Kuchar, Paula Pedroso, Christine Lehmann, and Ron Hudson. They're also currently looking for like-minded artists, poets and authors to join in the culmination of their second edition. If you feel you have something you'd like to contribute, contact Jody at jodykuch@mac.com for submissions guidelines. Please add "guidelines" to the subject line.

1.What is your real name?
Anastacia Birgitta Mott Austin

2. How would you describe or categorize your
writing style?
Ummm, rusty?
Having been "away" from writing for so long, I'm still
finding out. Though I
love poetry, I think creative non-fiction (you know,
prose, essays,
autobiographical scat) is really my genre. It helps,
though, to have begun
writing as a poet, and to continue writing poetry.
Poetry is a wonderful
exercise in strengthening the writing muscles, for
any genre. Must say the
word "poetry" again.

3. Who or what influences your work the most?
My children....they're in my face all the time.

4. Do you have a favorite poet/poetess?
You know, I'm not trying to kiss
butt or anything, but the poets I've seen on MTC
just f*cking blow me away.
I don't even know their real names ('cept Erin),
but Scout, Duchess, they
are the most incredible writers! Erin M., Indigo Whimsy (E2),
Nan 9Pilgrimage), James (Jack Frost). You all are just gifted.
I am honored to
write among you. Humbled.

5. Is there anything you'd like to say to, or share with,
your fellow
Moonies?

6. Have you ever been published anywhere, print or online?
If so tell us
where.
Well, I don't know if this counts, but I used to edit the local
mothers' club newsletter, and I wrote a column for the newsletter
called
"The Hippie Mama Column; Confessions of a Mothering Heretic," for
about two
years. I wrote "Slam Reactionary," (a poem of mine) as a tirade
against my
university's literary magazine for not publishing an essay I wrote.
I went
to the launch party, and there were so many pseudo-angry young men
shouting
"f" this and "f" that, like they had something to be mad about!
So, I guess
I get more inspired by NOT being published! I'm about to be
published for
real in a local women's newspaper/magazine called Women's Voices
....ooh,
it's not official yet, maybe I shouldn't jinx it. I'll let you know
for
sure.

7. what are your aspirations in life, concerning writing,
or anything else?
I'd like to be able to be involved with writing somehow
(writing, editing,
etc) in my 'real' life. I'd love to write a regular column
somewhere. I'll
be the new (read: cooler, sexier) Erma Bombeck! Actually,
my aspiration is
to see just how long I can stay in school without anyone
finding out I'm
still there.

Talking about all the other people when they're 'not

I used to be
the child
in the photograph
face yearning upward
to taste the breeze
of all that lies ahead
smooth, sleek as a seal
round-bellied, with fatted toes
raw on the inside, uncooked;
rare.

I used to be
held tightly,
no cares about sunburn
stick drawings all Picassos
part smoothed by well worn
mom-spit fingers

Now
I am the other one
looking down
belly rounded only
when with child
skin roughened
by the wind
of what was left behind
bony dancer feet
trained away from plump

Now
I seek refuge in shade
I am the one whose over-tight hold
hides my terror;
with calm Madonna smile
I groom small parted heads,
with weathered mother hands
that appeared one day
through surprised sleeves

Now
I am ancient on the inside
and completely raw
without

Okay, so you've decided to send your poem through
the workshop. There are several things you need to
know about workshops. There is also one thing you
need to remember.

The poem belongs to you!

Workshops are designed as a learning tool for writers.
It offers an in-depth look from different perspectives
on what you have written. It is the job of the workshop
instructors to point out your strengths and weaknesses
and to offer suggestions. It is your job to filter through
this information to determine what is usable to you.

The poem belongs to you!

You, as a workshop participant, have a voice. That voice
can say no! The poem belongs to you. If a suggestion or
a comment is sending your piece into a different direction
than you intended, say so. We can only help you if we
understand the intent of what you have written.

The poem belongs to you!

Workshop instructors are not there to do the work for you.
Take all suggestions with a grain of salt and, if worthy,
use your own voice to give them life. It is not necessary
to use every suggestion. We know, or hope, that you have
put a lot of time and effort into your poem. You have
stamped it with your identity. We only want to help to
enhance that identity.

Another Drunken Night

I have got to stop going to the poetry site get togethers and card games. Every time I go, most of the sites end up drunk, and I end up drinking way too much. Last night, Mi-Poe started a quick card game...we all ended up playing poker for about 5 hours, and I lost my shirt. Well, literally, since it turned into strip poker, so I guess just losing my shirt wasn't that bad. I finally did get to see IBPC naked, which was worth the wait.
Now, I have to try to get my chatroom cleaned out so I can host the get together there tonight of some of my users. I hope more show up, so they can get a good conversation going. It always makes me feel more loved that way. I also hope that my hang over is gone by then..nothing worse than having a long, lively conversation going on in your chatroom when your head is pounding.
Ok, off to some exercise, then cleaning the chatroom...or I could just sit on the steps with some coffee. Yeah, that sounds more realistic.

but this seems most appropriate.

Format
Manuscripts of 60 to 95 pages should be typed on
standard sized paper or be a clean photocopy.
DO NOT SEND YOUR ONLY COPY.

the title page.

Acknowledgments should appear on a separate page.
Individual collections must be the work of a single author.
Translations are not accepted.
Manuscripts should be submitted in final form;
revisions or emendations to acknowledgments will not
be considered during the contest.

Multiple submissions to other publishers are acceptable
provided we are informed if the manuscript is accepted elsewhere.
The manuscript should be submitted in a plain 9 x 11 1/2”
manila folder. Please do not submit manuscripts bound in
ring binders or plastic holders.

Return of Manuscripts
Because we cannot guarantee the return of the manuscripts,
all entries become the property of Ohio University Press
and those not chosen will be recycled.
DO NOT include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

All contestants will be notified following the final selection.

Summer Writing Camp Bennington College,
Bennington, Vermont. The National Book Foundation
is pleased to announce that we will be sponsoring our
12th annual Summer Writing Camp from Thursday,
July 7 - July 15, 2005, on the campus of Bennington College
in Bennington, Vermont. Forty-eight students, age 14 and up,
will be selected to participate in this unique, inter-generational
program. The Foundation is looking for responsible,
highly motivated, and mature individuals who have a
keen interest in writing and reading, and who would
appreciate and benefit from this experience. They must have
demonstrated proficiency in reading and writing in English.
The Foundation will cover the following expenses:
transportation between our office in Manhattan and the Camp,
accommodations, meals, workshop fees, and any required

About the Paranormal Wormhole
The Paranormal Wormhole was a very cool little print zine
we had going a while back. Several people have inquired about it.
It is currently out of print. I am not sure if I want to revive it or not.
I have considered changing the format to newsletter form or e-zine,
but the determining factor is time. This decision will remain
on the back burner until further notice.

The PW folder in the Premier section of Moontown will
remain open, but please save your work in case we decide
to scrap the project.

Book News
Recently, we announced that our book project was put on hold
due to poor quality. We have moved forward with this and have
made changes to the text. You may receive an email from the editor
asking if you approve of the changes. If you do not, we may or
may not print your original poem.
Other poems that were approved previously, may still not make the
final cut. Other Projects in ProgressStay tuned for more projects
to come, including the 2007 MTC Calendar and a new anthology.
